While most teenagers were studying to get into a top university, one 19-year-old boy was starring in his first movie, Blue Gate Crossing.

It was a film about love on campus and it was well received in Taiwan. Many say it was this film that put Bolin Chen in position for his later glittering career in show business.

In fact, it was not until he played a troubled young man in the movie Buddha Mountain that he regained his passion for acting.

While being called a “youth idol” may seem like a compliment, it is a title that Chen has tried to shake off. He believes that a youth idol means you simply rely on your appearance, not your acting talent.

The most important thing for Chen now is to take more initiative(主動性) as an actor. “To me, an actor is like a chess piece, waiting for producers and directors to put him somewhere they want him to be,” Chen,

  told NetEase.

“But I want to be the game player.”

He even took his ambition a step further—setting up his own production company.

But just when Chen started to focus on off-screen work, his life on screen took another turn. He won the title of Best Leading Actor at the 2024 Golden Bell Awards on Oct. 26 for his role in hit TV drama In Time with You. When asked why he accepted the part, which is another

  “youth idol” role, he told

  Yangcheng Evening News:

“I played it for my grandfather. He told everyone around that I am an actor, but I used to play in movies, not TV series. Now he is in the hospital. I hope that he can watch my performances by simply turning on the TV.”

Chen is a veteran(老手) in the entertainment world, but unlike many stars,he hasn't led a luxurious life. He doesn't even have a car but walks, rides a bike or takes a taxi whenever he goes out. He doesn't have a house, either. “Everyone will eventually find some place to live anyway, why bother to buy property (地產)?” he asked Taiwan magazine Business Today.

  A. likes to play games such as chess

  B. wants to take an active part in producing his films

As globalization continues to make the world a smaller

place, and goods become more accessible across borders,

concerns about food safety in the Asia-Pacific region have

steadily risen over the years. An APEC forum is being held in

Beijing, to find ways to better address the problem.

156 participants from 19 APEC economies and 4 non-APEC members attended the APEC Food Safety Cooperation Forum, which has been actively

looking for ways to strengthen food safety standard in the

  region, without affecting trade.

“As consumers are faced with more varieties of food, the

potential food safety risk also becomes bigger. This forum has

helped APEC economies to cooperate in supervision(監督), exchange information, and improve the overall food safety standard in the Asia-Pacific region,” said director of China's General Administration of Quality Supervision Wu Qinghai.

For the first time the forum has brought together high-level regulators, academics, and industry stakeholders to talk about their respective roles in safety supervision.

They say governments alone cannot shoulder this heavy duty.

  In China, the continuous food safety problems have greatly hurt consumers' confidence in domestic products;

therefore more turned to imports. However, problems related

to quality of those imported goods also began to show. In July this year, more than 400 batches(批) of food imported from 35 countries and regions were found substandard by the country's top quality supervisor.

Governments and industries have been brought closer by this forum. As food moves more freely beyond borders, this forum is hoped to promote safety control cooperation, so APEC members can better benefit from the economic integration(經濟一體化).

5.What kind of function can the forum play?

  A. It has greatly influenced the economy in the area.

  B. It has long been able to put every side's efforts together.

  C. It helps to bring government regulators and industries

  together.

  D. It has found ways to deal with safety problems.

6.The last but one paragraph tells us that ________.

  A. the Chinese customers are more satisfied with their

  food safety

  B. food imported from other countries is indeed high in

  quality

  C. many Chinese customers would rather buy some foreign

  food

  D. there are only 35 countries and regions exporting food

  to China

7.The underlined word “address” in the first paragraph can be replaced by “________”.

  A. send a letter about

  B. deal with

  C. deliver a speech on

  D. call off

8.According to the article, which of the following statements is WRONG?

  A. People can buy foreign food more easily than ever.

  B. The more varieties of food, the bigger the potential food

  safety risk.

  C. Food safety problems have appeared many times before this forum.

  D. Governments have started their cooperation with academies

  and industries before this forum.
