省略（Ellipsis）是為了避免重復，突出新信息并使上下文緊密連接的一種手段。省略在語言中，尤其在對話中，是一種十分普遍的現象。在近幾年的高考試題中，省略現象也尤為常見。
〖考點二〗狀語從句的省略

04. Though ______ money, his parents managed to send him to university.
A. lacked B. lacking of C. lacking D. lacked in
當見到when（或if, where, wherever, whenever, as soon as, than等）+ possible / necessary時，可理解中間省略了it is / was.
When (it is) necessary, you can help us to do something.
Answer these questions, if (it is) possible without referring to the book.
Ill inform you by e-mail when (it is) necessary.
He looked as if (he were) afraid of nothing.
【注意】由if構成的省略結構，已屬于固定短語。如：if any, if necessary, if possible, if not, if so等。如：
If necessary, ring me at home.
He may be busy. If so, Ill call later. If not, can I see him now.
用so, not, neither, nor或其它手段來省略上文或問句中的一部分或整個句義。
1、so與 not常可用來替代前面說的話，so表示肯定的替代，not表示否定的替代，即+謂語+not或not+謂語+so。So還可以和even, still, if, absolutely等連用，not可與 if, perhaps, of course, better why (not)等連用，構成縮略句。
-Can Emily do this work?埃米莉能做這件工作嗎？
-I think so.我想她行。
-I think not.（或I dont think so.）我想她不行。
-Did you know anything about it?這件事你以前知道嗎？
-Not until you told me.直到你告訴了我，我才知道。
2、So+謂語+主語表示前面的肯定情況也適合于后者；So+主語+謂語強調主語的情況的確如此；Neither/Nor +謂語+主語表示前面的否定情況也適合于后者。
-He did well in this examination.-So he did.
-She has been to the Great Wall.-So have I.
If you dont go to the cinema, neither will I.
